Just a few days ago, the mother dog and her four tiny puppies were lying together inside an oxygen care enclosure.
The mother, a thin white-and-light-brown dog with gentle brown eyes, was exhausted. Even while struggling to breathe, she kept turning her head toward her puppies as if she needed to make sure they were still beside her.
The puppies barely moved.
On Day 1, all they could do was stay close to their mother and keep warm.
By Day 2, something small began to change.
One puppy slowly started crawling toward her. The caregivers replaced their blankets, kept the family warm, and placed fresh water nearby.
It was only a tiny movement.
But at that moment, it felt like hope.
By Day 4, the mother could finally lift her head and drink on her own.
Her puppies were moving more too.
Soon, all four began nursing again.
A week after their first day in oxygen care, the mother stood up.
Her legs were still a little weak, but she slowly walked across the room.
Two puppies tried to follow her.
The others began playing together on the blanket.
Then came Day 14.
The same mother who had once been too weak to stand was now resting peacefully on the grass.
Her coat looked cleaner.
Her eyes were brighter.
And around her, four energetic puppies were running, climbing over her legs, and chasing one another.
Two weeks earlier, this entire little family needed oxygen and constant care.
Now they were outside together, doing something that once seemed so far away.
They were simply being a family again.
And perhaps the most touching moment was watching the mother quietly look at her puppies as they played around her.
After everything they had been through, she could finally watch them grow stronger right in front of her.
