She was so small that she could fit into the palm of one hand.
The newborn kitten had been abandoned before she was even old enough to open her eyes. Her fur was still damp and dirty, and part of her umbilical cord was still attached to her tiny body.
When a woman found her, the kitten was barely moving.
She was cold.
Weak.
And completely alone.
The woman wrapped her in a warm towel and rushed her somewhere safe.
During the first hours, the kitten was kept warm and given tiny amounts of milk.
At first, there was almost no response.
But later that night, one of her little paws moved.
Then she opened her mouth and took a few drops of milk.
It felt like the beginning of a miracle.
By the next morning, the kitten seemed slightly stronger.
She moved her head when she heard the woman’s voice.
She curled her tiny paws against the blanket.
And for the first time, she drank a little more without being encouraged.
The woman stayed beside her almost constantly.

Every feeding mattered.
Every small movement felt like progress.
For a short time, it seemed that the tiny kitten might actually make it.
But later, her condition suddenly changed.
She stopped drinking.
Her movements became weaker.
The woman tried to keep her warm and continued caring for her, hoping she would respond again.
But this time, she didn’t.
The kitten became quieter and quieter until she finally stopped moving.
The miracle everyone had hoped for never came.
She had survived long enough to feel warmth.
Long enough to be held.
Long enough to know that someone was there beside her.
But her body had simply been too fragile.
The woman gently wrapped the kitten in the same soft blanket that had kept her warm during those final hours.
She had been abandoned with her umbilical cord still attached.
She never got the chance to grow up, run, play, or see the world around her.

But she did not leave this world alone.
For the short time she was here, she was cared for.
She was protected.
And she was loved.
