Two Puppies Clinging Together in Fear
Inside a crowded kennel at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, two tiny puppies spend every moment pressed tightly against one another.
Their names are Tex and Rex.
Both only six months old.
Both frightened beyond words.
Whenever people walk past their kennel, the puppies instinctively move closer together, as though trying to protect one another from the overwhelming fear surrounding them.
In a loud shelter filled with barking dogs, unfamiliar smells, and constant stress, the two puppies have become each other’s only source of comfort.

Picked Up Alone as Strays
Tex and Rex arrived at the shelter on November 29 after being found wandering the streets alone together.
Nobody came searching for them.
Nobody claimed them.
The two Staffordshire mix puppies, weighing only around 20 pounds each, entered the shelter frightened, confused, and already suffering from painful skin issues.
Both puppies tested positive for demodex mange, leaving their skin crusted, irritated, and uncomfortable.
Yet despite their condition, shelter staff quickly noticed something heartbreaking about them.
The puppies were incredibly gentle.
They did not act aggressive.
They simply wanted someone to hold them.

The Fear in Their Eyes Is Real
Volunteers say Tex and Rex constantly seek physical comfort from one another.
When one puppy becomes nervous, the other immediately presses closer.
When loud noises startle them, they curl tightly together.
And when shelter workers open the kennel door, the puppies look up with frightened eyes silently begging for reassurance.
Their fear is not dramatic.
It is real.
The kind of fear that comes from suddenly losing everything familiar while being too young to understand why.
Running Out of Time
Now comes the heartbreaking reality.
Tex and Rex have been placed on the shelter’s euthanasia list as “rescue only” dogs due to their medical condition and urgent need for treatment.
The overcrowded shelter environment is no place for two frightened puppies needing specialized care, medicated baths, and time to emotionally decompress.
Without rescue placement or foster help, their future remains painfully uncertain.
And still, the two puppies continue holding onto each other as though they somehow understand time is running out.

They Don’t Need Perfection—Just Love
Despite their mange and fear, rescuers say Tex and Rex are incredibly sweet puppies who simply want affection and safety.
A quiet foster home.
Warm blankets.
Gentle hands.
The chance to sleep peacefully without fear.
That is all these two babies truly need right now.
Because underneath the crusted skin and trembling fear are two loving puppies desperately hoping the world has not already given up on them.
Still Waiting for Someone to Save Them
Every day inside the shelter kennel, Tex and Rex continue doing the only thing that makes them feel safe:
Holding onto each other.
And perhaps that is what breaks hearts most of all.
Because while the world feels terrifying and uncertain around them, these two frightened puppies still believe they are stronger together.
Now they just need someone kind enough to give them the chance to survive together too.
