A Tiny Shadow in the Darkness
It was nearly midnight when a volunteer rescuer received a message about a frightened puppy hiding in a nearly empty parking lot. Most people had already gone home, and the streets were growing quiet, but someone had noticed a small black-and-tan puppy darting between parked cars before disappearing underneath an old vehicle. Worried that the puppy might be injured or abandoned, they called for help.
When the volunteer arrived, the parking lot was illuminated only by a few dim streetlights. At first, she couldn’t see the puppy anywhere. Then she heard it—a soft whimper coming from beneath a car.
