Even After Being Kicked Away, Mrio Still Chased the Man Who Abandoned Him

Mrio was an old black-and-white dog with tired eyes and a body that had grown too thin from years of neglect.

His fur, once soft and beautiful, had fallen out in patches because of mange. His skin was red, sore, and covered with wounds he could not stop scratching. Every step hurt. Every breath sounded heavy. But even after all the pain, Mrio still loved the only person he had ever called his owner.

That morning, the man put a rope around Mrio’s neck and led him down a quiet road.

Mrio walked slowly behind him, wagging his tail weakly. He thought they were going somewhere together. Maybe to find food. Maybe to sit under a tree like they used to long ago. He did not understand why the man did not look back at him even once.

Then they reached the rescue station.

The man pulled Mrio through the gate and spoke coldly to the people inside. He said he did not want the dog anymore. He said Mrio was old, sick, and useless. The words meant nothing to Mrio, but the tone did.

His tail stopped moving.

When one of the rescuers gently reached for him, Mrio suddenly panicked. He turned his head toward the man, eyes wide and pleading, as if begging him not to leave. He tried to follow, but the man was already walking away.

Mrio broke free.

With his weak legs shaking beneath him, he ran after the man as fast as his tired body could move. His paws scraped against the ground. His breath came out in painful gasps. But he kept running.

The man heard him coming.

He turned around angrily.

Before Mrio could reach him, the man kicked him hard.

The old dog fell to the ground.

For a moment, Mrio could not move. His thin body trembled in the dust. His sore skin brushed against the rough road, and his legs folded beneath him. The rescuers cried out and rushed forward, but Mrio lifted his head first.

He looked at the man.

There was no anger in his eyes.

Only confusion.

Only heartbreak.

And somehow, even after being hurt by the person he loved most, Mrio tried to stand again.

His back legs shook. His body swayed. He nearly collapsed a second time, but he forced himself forward. Step by painful step, he followed the man again, as if he still believed there had been a mistake.

Maybe his owner would turn around.

Maybe he would say sorry.

Maybe he would take him home.

But the man kept walking.

Mrio let out a weak cry, so soft it almost disappeared in the wind. Then his legs finally gave out. He dropped to the ground, his eyes still fixed on the back of the man who had abandoned him.

A rescuer knelt beside him and wrapped a blanket around his fragile body.

For the first time that day, someone touched Mrio gently.

The old dog did not understand that he had just been saved. He only kept staring down the road, waiting for the one person who would never come back.

And that was the saddest part.

Mrio had been thrown away like he meant nothing.

But in his broken little heart, he was still loyal to the man who had never deserved him.
