People found the old dog curled up in a damp corner beside an old wall.
His body was painfully thin, his fur almost gone, his skin covered in dust, and his cloudy eyes stared toward the road as if he was begging for help. He was too weak to stand. All he could do was drag his fragile body across the cold ground.
No one knew how long he had been left there.
Maybe he once had an owner. Maybe he once had a name. Maybe he once wagged his tail when someone came home. But when he grew old, sick, and no longer beautiful, he was abandoned in that corner like something worthless.
Then evening came.
A heavy rain began to fall. Cold water ran across the ground, soaking his tiny body. He tried to push himself up to escape the freezing water, but his weak legs collapsed beneath him.
He started breathing fast.
His eyes widened in fear.

At that moment, a vehicle passed dangerously close. The loud noise made him panic. He tried to crawl deeper against the wall, but behind him there was only broken stone and darkness. He had nowhere left to hide.
He could not bark.
He could not cry.
He could only look at the people passing by with eyes that seemed to ask:
“I’m still alive… will anyone save me?”
If no one stopped, he might not survive the night.
The cold, hunger, sickness, and fear were slowly taking the last bit of strength from his body.
Just as he was about to collapse, a woman walking past suddenly stopped. She saw those weak eyes in the dark corner and rushed toward him. When she bent down, the old dog trembled, thinking he was about to be chased away again.
But this time, the hand did not hurt him.
The woman gently covered his small body with her coat and lifted him from the cold ground. He was too weak to react. He only rested his head against her arm, as if after so many days of waiting, he finally understood that he had been saved.
She took him home through the rain.
There, he was dried, given warm water, and placed on a soft blanket under a gentle yellow light. For the first time in a long time, he was no longer lying on dirty ground. He was no longer pressed against a cold wall. He no longer had to wait in fear.
The woman placed a small bowl of food beside him and whispered:
“You’re safe now. From today on, this is your home.”
The old dog did not understand every word.
But he understood warmth.
He understood a gentle hand.
He understood that, tonight, he was no longer alone.
He had once been abandoned in a dark corner, as if his life was about to end in silence. But in the end, someone stopped, lifted him up, and gave him a home.
Maybe he did not have much time left.
But from that moment on, the rest of his days would no longer be filled with hunger, cold, and fear.
They would be filled with care, comfort, and the love he had always deserved.
