Kita was only 7 months old.
She was a tiny gray puppy with soft fur, innocent eyes, and a heart that still trusted humans completely. She did not understand cruelty. She did not understand anger. All she knew was that when a person came close, she hoped for a gentle touch, a kind voice, or a little bit of love.
But that day, the hand that reached for her was not kind.
The man grabbed Kita in anger. Her small body trembled as she struggled helplessly in his arms. Her little paws moved in the air, and her frightened eyes looked up at him as if she were silently begging him not to hurt her.
But he did not stop.
Without mercy, he threw the 7-month-old puppy onto the hard concrete road.
The impact was heartbreaking.
Kita’s tiny body hit the ground with force. Dust covered her gray fur. Blood stained the fur around her mouth. For a few terrifying seconds, she did not move at all.
Then, somehow, she tried to get up.
With the last bit of strength left in her small body, Kita pressed her front paws against the concrete. Her legs shook badly. Her breathing was weak. Her eyes were full of pain and confusion, as if she could not understand why someone she had trusted would do this to her.
She managed to stand.
Then she took one step.
Another step.
But after only a few painful steps, her little body could not continue.
Kita collapsed onto the road.
Her head fell against the cold concrete. Her gray fur was stained with dust and blood. Her body trembled faintly, and her half-open eyes still seemed to search for help.
Across the street, a woman had witnessed everything.
For a moment, she stood frozen, horrified by what she had just seen. Then her hands began to shake as she pulled out her phone and called the police. Her voice cracked as she reported the abuse, unable to look away from the injured puppy lying helplessly on the ground.
Minutes later, a police car arrived.
The officers stepped out and saw Kita lying on the concrete, barely moving. After listening to the woman’s account and seeing the puppy’s condition, they immediately took the man into custody and brought him to the police station.
The police car door closed.
The man was taken away.
But Kita was still there.
Still lying on the cold road.
Still breathing weakly.
Still fighting for her life.
The woman slowly knelt beside her. She did not dare pick Kita up, afraid that even the smallest movement might hurt her more. Instead, she gently placed her hand near the puppy’s head, letting her know that she was no longer alone.
Kita slowly opened her eyes.
Even after all the pain she had suffered, there was still a tiny spark of trust in them.
And that was what broke the woman’s heart the most.
Because even after being hurt by a human, Kita still looked at another human as if she might be saved.
On that cold concrete road, a helpless 7-month-old puppy had been betrayed in the cruelest way. But beside her, a stranger refused to walk away.
Kita’s body was weak.
Her breathing was fading.
And her fight to survive had only just begun.
