On a busy city street lived a small stray dog.
No one knew where he had come from.
No one knew his name.
Every morning, he wandered through the streets looking for scraps of food. Every night, he curled up beneath an old storefront or inside a worn cardboard box to escape the cold.
He had no family.
No home.
No one waiting for him.
One quiet afternoon, as he walked down the sidewalk, he stopped in front of a brightly lit bakery.
Behind the large glass window, a family was celebrating their pet dog’s birthday.
A beautiful cake sat in the center of the table.

Colorful balloons decorated the room.
Everyone was smiling and singing, “Happy Birthday.”
The little pet dog wagged his tail excitedly as his family hugged him and placed a party hat on his head.
The stray dog sat silently outside the window.
His eyes never left the birthday cake.
For the first time in his life, he realized that dogs could have birthdays too.
He slowly looked down at his dirty paws.
A quiet thought crossed his mind.
“Has anyone ever celebrated my birthday?”
He didn’t know the answer.
No one knew the day he was born.
No one had ever remembered him.
When the celebration ended, the lights inside the bakery grew dim.
The happy family walked away together, carrying their smiling dog home.
The stray dog remained outside for a long time, staring through the empty window.
Then he quietly turned around and walked away.
That night, dark clouds covered the sky.
Rain began to fall.
The little dog found shelter beneath an old awning, but the cold wind blew the rain onto his thin, soaked fur.
He shivered.
He was hungry.
He was alone.
Looking up into the dark sky, his eyes slowly filled with tears.
One tiny drop rolled down his face.
No one could tell whether it was rain…
Or a tear.
As he closed his eyes, he imagined something he had never experienced.
Someone gently calling his name.

A small birthday cake placed in front of him.
A warm hand stroking his head.
A soft voice whispering,
“Happy Birthday, little one.”
But when he opened his eyes…
There was only the sound of falling rain and an empty street.
No balloons.
No cake.
No candles.
No birthday song.
Only silence.
The little dog curled into a ball, hugging himself against the cold, while the rain continued to fall through the lonely night.
Yet deep inside his heart, he still held on to one small hope…
That one day, someone would see him.
Someone would give him a home.
And perhaps, for the very first time in his life…
Someone would remember his birthday.
