The Small Speckled Puppy Fighting To Stay Alive
On a cold Monday morning, rescuers at Stray Rescue of St. Louis prepared for the arrival of a critically ill puppy transferred from a shelter in southern Missouri.
But the moment they saw him, the entire room fell silent.
The tiny three-month-old puppy, later named Petey, looked heartbreakingly fragile. His gray-and-white fur was patchy, dirty, and stained from neglect, while little black speckles scattered across his coat made him look even more delicate.
He weighed only eight pounds.
Far too small.
Far too weak.
And as rescuers gently lifted him from the carrier, they realized something devastating:

That means the tiny speckled puppy may eventually walk normally again once his body becomes stronger.
